Reinstate Consuelo Rubio to Work

Consuelo has been forced to take a leave with pay from the Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples (CSSP) by its Board of Directors since February 12, 2007. Consuelo filed a harassment grievance against her Executive Director, Eduardo Garay, in December 2006. The Board of Directors ordered Consuelo to leave her job indefinitely until the investigation into the allegations has been completed.

Background

· Consuelo has been working at the Centre for 28 years
· Consuelo has provided legal-advocacy support to countless numbers of immigrants, refugees and socially-marginalized members of the Latin American community as well as her own colleagues
· Consuelo is one of the stewards of OPSEU’s local 512
· Eduardo Garay has had other harassment grievances and complaints made against him since May 2006
· Consuelo’s clients may not be adequately represented while she is forced to stay away, and therefore they may be at risk of losing their cases

What you can do

· Write letters and/or call all the members of the CSSP’s Board demanding Consuelo be reinstated to her job immediately. Here are the names of Board members:
President: Sonia Gaete - 32 Uno Drive, Toronto, M8Z 3N8 - 416 251 5872
Vice-President: Jose Alvarado - 179 Elmhurst Drive M9W 2L2

Member:Ruby Lopez - 292 Neal Drive, richmond Hill M1P 3S3
Member: Imelda Surez - 41 Warrender Avenue, Apt. 501 M9W 2L2.
Past President: Elias Morales - 2101 Islington Avenue, Apt. 211 Toronto M9P 3R2
416-614-1868 or 416-247-2641.
· Send faxes to the Centre at 416-533-9792
· Remind the Board that they are accountable to the community for their actions
· Emphasize that the Board is liable for its actions. We are concerned about the potential harm done to clients and the community at large.

BRING CONSUELO BACK TO WORK NOW!

Latin American Coalition Against Racism (LACAR)

no longer active

After six years of hard work, LACAR has decided to stop working as such.

Our commitment to anti-racist and social justice work remains intact.

We want to thank all the people who accompanied us over the years,

and contributed in so many ways.

This has been an excellent experience for Coalition members

and we hope to work together in the future.

And although we are no longer active, we still have many copies of our poster.

You can have our poster for free!

Please contact us at lacar@tao.ca if you want 1 or 100 (we still have 400)!!!
